People are only just learning their toaster has a crumb tray that needs emptying

There’s a few lessons in life that we’re just expected to pick up ourselves along the way.

Parents, family and teachers do their best to impart knowledge, but there’s always a few things that are left with the expectation that common sense will kick in – making them even more embarrassing when our failures are exposed.

Zoe Alexander, who once went viral for storming off stage at an X Factor audition, has racked up the views again after sharing the simple life lesson that had eluded her.

But, bizarrely, she doesn’t appear to be the only one who hadn’t fully grasped how toasters work, as hundreds of people took to the comments to admit it had left them “mind-blown”.

Replying to a TikTok trend asking: ‘What is an adult problem that nobody prepared you for?’, Zoe posted a video to admit: “Nobody told me that I had to empty the crumb tray in the toaster. Because if I don’t, it sets on fire.”

In the clip, she can be seen sliding out the thin metal tray that sits at the bottom of the toaster and catches all of the crumbs, which needs emptying into the bin every so often before being replaced.

But we all knew that, right? Wrong.

The video has been watched more than 640,000 times and gained more than 2,000 comments as one viewer replied to say: “Wait. There’s a crumb tray in the toaster? Is that why my toaster caught on fire!? Urgh that was my fav toaster, I threw it away.”

A second wrote: “That’s a thing?!! I’m gonna empty it right now.”

A third said: “”Runs downstairs to see if my toaster has a crumb tray‘”

And another asked: “Where is that even located?” before another helpfully advised: “Bottom of the toaster.”
