A bride has been slammed after she tried to trick her family into paying £10,000 each towards her wedding – then uninvited those who didn’t cough up the cash.
In an anonymous post on Reddit, the bride, who has been renamed Karen supposedly called her brother Matt two days before the wedding asking for money.
She apparently said to him: “I put deposits down for the hall, the photographer, the caterer, the flowers and the DJ but I didn’t know I had to pay in full on my wedding day, I thought I could pay later.”
She then went on to ask if he had $15,000 (£10,000) that she could borrow – but he didn’t.
They chatted on the phone for a few minutes more and hung up.
But 10 minutes later, he receives a phone call from a bridesmaid who told him the wedding was cancelled.
The guest continued: “A year later…Karen posts on her Facebook ‘Happy 1 year anniversary. I can’t believe it has been a year already. Here are photos from the wedding.’
“Turns out Karen, called every family member, pumped them for money. When they said no, they were uninvited.
“She had a very small wedding with a good-sized party afterwards. Her own brother, grandmother and a few aunts were all uninvited. 10 years later she still complains they weren’t there for her ‘special day.'”
Since being shared, the post has racked up hundreds of votes and dozens of comments from people who were stunned by her behaviour.
One person said: “At a loss for words!”
Another person said: “That’s…. impressive. In how awful it is.”
A third put: “I’m a little impressed by the gall they had to pull this stunt AND complain people weren’t there.”
